How to Jack up the car, where to put the jack stands, perform the oil change and Oil Life reset. This video is specific to the Scat Pack 6.4L or 392 Cu In engine, I would allow for an hour to complete the job 2 if you have not done this before.
Checking your Oil
A good reference is from the bottom of the safe zone scoring to the top is 1 quart of oil. The best time to check your oil is when you car has reached operating temperature then had been off for 5 minutes and is on level ground. I check mine every time I get gas, since I don’t usually wait 5 minutes I account for a little missing oil that has not drained out of the engine. Regardless the oil should never be above or below the safe zone scoring on your short throw dipstick

- Jack Pad – Premium Magnetic Jack Pad – 1 each
- Craftsman Oil Filter Wrench, Auto-Adjustable
- 10mm 1/4 or 3/8 drive Socket to remove the maintenance cover
- 13 mm 3/8 drive socket for the oil drain plug
- 3/8 drive Torque wrench (optional) for those of you with the service manual and proper torque specs
- Oil catch pan for 7+qts of oil with room to spare (easier to drain)
- 7 qts of oil (MS-12633)
- Royal Purple 20-820 Oil Filter
The Jack pad I picked up slides nicely along the pinch weld and sticks in place to keep the jack from destroying my rocker trim.
For the first oil change the factory Sasquatch installs the filter, it’s near impossible for a mortal man to remove without the help of a large adjustable 3/8 drive socket type filter wrench that can handle the behemoth 3.8” filter. I recommend socket type because there is not much room along the sides of the filter.
The oil I have been using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum Full Synthetic Motor Oil 0w-40 as it’s the only oil that I found the meets (MS-12633) and can be delivered via Amazon subscribe and save. Same with the Royal Purple filter, It’s a good brand, purple and eligible for Amazon Subscribe and save.
If you have a blacktop driveway its best to put a metal or plywood base under your jack stands to the pressure is distributed evenly Jackstands tend to sink in sometimes.
Disclaimer: Use properly rated jack stand NEVER get under you car without them. If you don’t know your way around the engine bay or how to properly use a jack or tools, please have someone who does assist you. While you did not see me using a torque wrench I want to note it’s always best to follow manufacturers service manual to make sure everything is reinstalled to proper tightness. With this video I hope to encourage someone like me who does not want other people working on their car to do it themselves.
Enjoy
