Another successful Headlight Restore with the 3M Headlight Restoration Kit this time on the Magnum. After my first success with the 2005 Hyundai Tuscon, I bought another kit for my 2005 Dodge Magnum, it was $15 on amazon and now at the time of this video it’s down to $10. The kit included everything I needed to achieve these results in just about an hour. The only thing I needed was my trusty Ryobi One+ drill which I forgot to charge. We went from hazy, cloudy, yellowed headlights to crisp bright clear lights with a little bit of effort. The difference is huge, it’s immediately noticeable when you approach the car and provides a lot more light while driving because the light is no longer being diffused by the hazy lenses. When I did the Hyundai, at first I tried to do it by hand sanding the lights, but this method was taking forever, after picking up the 3M Headlight Restoration Kit I was cutting through the yellow haze 10x faster with my Drill.
As I mentioned in this video, I highly recommend you find something to protect your freshly polished headlights from those harmful UV rays. I didn’t want to mask off the entire car to spray a UV resistant non-yellowing clear coat like the Rust-Oleum 327864 2x Clear. I used the more expensive, but far easier option of coating it in Chemical Guys Jet Seal and letting it set for 20 minutes. It may be more expensive, but it’s not a single use product. I always have Chemical Guys Jet Seal on hand, I use it every few months to coat my wheels, glass and paint. I find it creates a nice slick surface that dirt, brake dust and bird poo does not like to stick to. It also has desirable water beading property on the windows and windshield.
Note: The 3M Headlight Restoration Kit will get your headlights clear, but you may see imperfections deep in the plastic that you cannot get out. Please don’t expect crystal clear new from the factory headlights, all the years of rock chips and other age related imperfections will be visible up close, but trust me your headlights will look 100x better both visually and provide more light output while driving.
